Obama Administration Has a Higher Removal Rate than Bush Administration
“Removal” is the term used to describe deportation. The Obama Administration has recently clarified its position on priorities for removal which includes identifying and removing criminal aliens who pose a threat to public safety and national security.
At present, the Obama Administration is on track to have removed more individuals (over 1 million) in President Obama’s first term than President George W. Bush removed in his two terms in office.
Stepped up enforcement by the Administration is not without controversy. Today a letter was released by a coalition of groups in Washington State. The letter was sent to the state’s Congressional delegation and identified problematic actions by Customs and Border Patrol officials in the state’s border regions including racial profiling and pre-textual stops. This letter follows a press report of a CBP official who lost his job after being convicted of felony harassment in connection with a road rage incident against a Canadian teen.
